About me:

Emily Thompson is an IACAT-accredited Creative Arts Therapist who is passionate about supporting mental health through the use of the creative process. She believes strongly in creativity as a way of inner reflection and healing and how this can act as an agent of change. She encourages safe creative expression and supports each client on their journey to positive change and healing.

Emily has over seven years experience working in healthcare settings, both in the USA and Ireland. On completion of her BFA from Tyler School of Art, Emily worked in an Arts Center for adults with disabilities where she ran an arts program focusing on creativity promoting well-being, and improving confidence for each individual. She then pursued her MA in Art Therapy at Crawford, CIT (now MTU), where she graduated with first-class honors in 2020. Throughout her career, she has supported people of all ages, with various mental health issues and disabilities. She has several years experience working with people with Acquired Brain Injury, including strokes, TBI, etc. She takes part in ongoing training to further expand her knowledge and expertise and adheres to the IACATs code of ethics.

Emily's approach within Art Therapy is client-centered and client-led. Emily may suggest themes to support the client in the initial phase of work which offers a framework to begin. She does not judge or interpret the artwork. Each art piece is viewed as an extension of the client and respected as thus, it will be kept safely and confidentially until the conclusion of therapy. She provides a safe, nonjudgemental, and confidential space in which each client can feel free to explore their personal story.

She is available for individual art therapy sessions.
