New Ukrainian Project Launched

MyMind Centre is delighted to extend free counselling and psychotherapy services to Ukrainian refugees living in Ireland, with thanks to funding from the HSE.

These services will be delivered online by MyMind’s dedicated team of Ukrainian mental health professionals, each of whom has been recruited since moving to Ireland in the wake of the Russian invasion in February of last year.

The latest initiative follows on from the delivery of almost 1,000 appointments to Ukrainian nationals through the Department of Department of Health-funded Free Counselling Project in 2022 and the first quarter of 2023.

The HSE’s National Mental Health Operations has committed over EUR125,000 to fund the service, after identifying a number of significant concerns in relation to the mental wellbeing of Ukrainian refugees arriving in the country.

According to data presented by the HSE Social Inclusion unit at a special event to mark the first anniversary of the launch of the ‘Sharing the Vision’ national mental health implementation plan for 2020 to 2030, 73% of Ukrainian nationals coming to Ireland reported to have a psychological health problem, while 65% presented symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

The HSE also highlighted a lack of awareness of the services available and how to engage, along with travel, costs, digital literacy, technology, language, environment, social situations, and continued exposure to emotional distress, among the significant barriers to Ukrainians accessing resources.

For further information, visit the dedicated Ukrainian-language landing page or contact our team through office@mymind.org, or 0818 500 800. To avail of this - or any other - service, please note that individuals will be required to register an account through mymind.org and have our Operations Team activate the relevant access code.
